No New Fires in Kamloops Fire Centre
BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is reporting no new fires have cropped up in the Kamloops Fire Centre over the past few days.
The Kamloops Fire Centre which includes Merritt and area, is reporting that as of May 29, there are four fires in the region.
Three of the four are classified as “under control” including the Lauder Creek wildfire northeast of Nicola Lake, the Spence’s Bridge wildfire and a small fire outside of Kelowna near Lamby Lake.
The massive Truax wildfire is classified as being held by the BCWS. The 205 hectre fire south of Carpenter Lake near Lillooet is considered human caused as is the Lauder Creek and Spences Bridge wildfire while the fire near Lamby is still under investigation.
Currently 111 wildfires are burning in the province with 89 percent or 99 of them under control. Ten wildfires in the province are currently out of control.
The service also reports that seventeen of the 111 wildfires in the province are considered human caused.
A reminder that Category 2 open fires are banned in the Kamloops Fire Centre. Category 2 is classified as an open fire that burns material in one pile, not exceeding two metres in height and three metres in width.
The use of fireworks, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets and air curtain burners are also included in the ban as well as burn barrels or burn cages.
This ban will stay in effect until October or until the order is rescinded.
