Meta responds to criticism from Justin Trudeau and David Eby
BRITISH COLUMBIA — After criticism from Justin Trudeau and B-C Premier David Eby, social media king Meta has responded.
Meta claims the news outlets still have websites outside Facebook and that they would allow only two sites on their platform for Kelowna and Yellowknife updates.
The ban has most Canadians unable to access valuable information, with some already struggling to keep up with new media platforms. Both Trudeau and Eby said earlier that Meta’s ban on Canadian news content is placing corporate interests over people’s safety during an emergency.
Meta was looking for a profit from Facebook news outlets that use their platform, and when they didn’t get a cut decided to ban the pages altogether.
Sites all around Canada were shut down when the restrictions took place August 1st.
