Mayor Mike Goetz addresses misinformation amidst Merritt Wildfire Situation

MERRITT — Mayor Mike Goetz was in the Q 1-0-1 Studio Friday, August 18th to address the smoky skies over Merritt and talk about the Wildfire situation.

The white smoke you see is from the Ross Moore lake fire while the brownish smoke is coming from the Boston Bar, nowhere near Merritt.

As for the misinformation going around town, there is no fire by Lily Lake or Coldwater Reservation.

Goetz reminds Merritonians we are still in Level 5 Water Restrictions, and also to watch for cars parked by dry grass as exhaust can be very hot. Roman candles and fireworks are not permitted.

He also mentioned that he is working with the province to provide relief for evacuees dealing with the West Kelowna Wildfire.

Goetz says the wildfires pose no threat to the city of Merritt as of Friday, August 18th.
