HAMILTON HILL — A new wildfire along highway 97C is suspected to be human caused. The fire sparked outside of Merritt Monday night.
It was discovered around 7 p.m. by Hamilton Hill. It’s estimated at three hectares in size in the BCWS’ last update of the night, posted around 8:15 p.m.
BC Wildfire Services say the “fire is contained but not under control,” and were glad to discover the blaze before it got any worse.
Kamloops Fire Information Officer Kyla Fraser says the BCWS sent two initial crews to the fire. The Merritt Fire Department also assisted. Fraser expects crews to have the fire under control sometime this evening.
