Airport Community Day Another Huge Success

The steep history of the Merritt Community Airport was celebrated on Saturday as hundred gathered at Saunders Field.
From classic cars to food vendors, small airplanes to helicopter rides, there was something for the whole family to enjoy.
“Many people do not know this but the Merritt Airport has been an integral part of the growth of the city of Merritt.” said Greg Girard, MC for the event. “Since 1919, investors from around the world have used the facility to come to the area and build businesses here.”
Merritt Mayor Mike Goetz also mentioned the rich history the Merritt Airport has played in the early hays of the city’s incorporation.
“From it’s humble beginnings when air travel was still in it’s infancy, the Merritt Airport has been vital in the growth of the community,” Goetz told the onlookers. “As or city continues to grow, in Merritt Airport still has important role to play in or (Merritt’s) growth.”
Organizers say next year’s event will have a few surprises in store for attendees.
