Members of the BC Highway Patrol will join members of the Merritt RCMP on Wednesday for the July installment of “Coffee With A Cop” but as was the case in June, with a bit of wrinkle.
The popular event, an initiative of the Merritt Community Policing Office, (CPO) is designed to get a dialogue open between Merritt residents and members of the local RCMP, in a friendly, open setting while enjoying a cup of java.
In June, a successful spin-off, “Pizza With A Cop” was launched and Marlene Jones, the CPO coordinator said that the July gathering feature Supt. Dale Carr and Insp. Rob Nason with BC Highway Patrol and will also feature food.
“We were approached by BC Highway Patrol about co-hosting the July event,” said Jones. “Right now BC Highway Patrol is going though a recruitment drive so it’s a great opportunity for members of the community to come out and meet the members, ask them questions and if you are interested in a career in law enforcement, just let them know.”
Jones told Q101 News that currently the Central BC Highway Patrol Unit has 32 members including eight from Merritt. Supt. Dale Carr and Insp. Rob Nason will be on hand to chat with
“These are the men and women who keep our highways like the Coquihalla safe,” Jones added, “In 2022, this unit impounded 270 vehicles off the highways for excessive speed and arrested 150 impaired drivers.”
Those attending the July’s Coffee With A Cop will be treated to subs (while supplies last) as well as a cool beverage. This months Coffee (Sub) With A Cop will happen at Spirit Square between 12 noon and 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
