MERRITT – A Special Weather Statement has been put into effect for highways surrounding Merritt due to precipitation in the forecast.
Environment Canada said wet snow is possible over highway passes which include, Merritt to Hope, Merritt to Kamloops, Merritt to Kelowna, and Hope to Princeton through Allison Pass.
“A trough of low pressure is affecting southwestern B.C., resulting in precipitation and lowering snow levels,” wrote Environment Canada. “The snow level is expected to reach approximately 1,400 metres this evening and persist until Tuesday morning. Scattered flurries are expected over Pennask summit of the Okanagan Connector tonight, while a mix of wet flurries and rain showers may occur near Coquihalla Summit, Allison Pass, and Helmer Lake Summit.”
The wet snow or rain is expected to continue until afternoon on Tuesday (June 20).
Officials warn of possible slippery conditions with the wet roads and to always drive with caution.
