MERRITT – The Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) held it’s annual award ceremony ahead of graduation.
“Our NVIT awards are probably a cornerstone to demonstrate how much the hard work is looked at and acknowledged, by not only NVIT, but by the sponsors who put funds towards celebrating there successes and hard work,” said John Chenoweth, Vice-President of Academics at NVIT.
Between the Merritt and Burnaby NVIT campuses, $32,650 was given to 40 different students. These bursaries and scholarships ranged from $100 to $5,000.
“We have a lot of private donors and corporate donors that support students and are wanting to donate to the students because it’s a good cause to build for the future and we can proved an avenue to them to support the future of not only BC, but for Canada,” added Chenoweth.
Now that the awards are done, it’s time to walk the stage. NVIT has two graduation ceremonies taking place this year due to the amount of graduates and the importance.
“It’s the first time we have had two graduations here so everyone is a little hyped up about it,” said Chenoweth. “It’s going to be a great day ad what makes it really unique, is that the second grad is all for indigenous language graduates from around the province.”
The two graduation ceremonies take place today (June 9) at 10:00 a.m. and then 3:00 p.m..
