MERRITT — The province is banning campfires in both the Kamloops and Cariboo Fire Centres as of this Thursday (June 8).
In a news release, the province says Category 1 fires will join Category 2 and 3 open burning on the prohibited list at 12:00 noon Thursday.
The campfire bans are slated to remain in place until October 13 or until the province rescinds them.
In addition to open fires, the prohibition includes fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels, binary exploding targets and tiki torches.
The BC Interior is in the midst of a warm, dry stretch that may push temperatures into the mid-30s later this week.
