MERRITT – With temperatures expected to reach the low to mid 30’s in the Nicola Valley, Environment Canada has a special weather statement put into place for most of the province.
“Daytime highs will be 10 to 15 degrees Celsius above seasonal values while overnight lows will be 5 to 10 degrees above what is normally experienced this time of year,” wrote Environment Canada in their statement.
The hot weather will be in full force starting tomorrow (Friday, May 12) and stick around until Tuesday, May 16.
With the temperatures reaching in the 30’s in the interior, officials also point out the mercury will rise to the high 20’s in northern regions.
The increase in temperature also means the increase of potential flooding.
“Freezing levels will rise throughout this event leading to increased snowpack melting with possible local flooding due to high stream flow levels,” wrote officials.
The risk of heat related illnesses will be a problem over the weekend as well so experts are reminding people to drink lots of water.
