MERRITT – As the school year continues on, Merritt RCMP remind residents about school bus safety.
“I’d like to remind motorists to slow down around schools and buses, no matter the circumstances,” said Cpl. Brock Hendrick. “Our children deserve nothing less.”
Officers said when a school bus has their flashing lights on and their stop sign out, drivers must stop regardless of their direction of travel.
RCMP added there are high definition cameras on all local school buses in the Nicola Valley, so should a resident fail to stop for the bus, there may be action taken from local officers. The fine amount is $368 and also three penalty points.
Police also note the driver does not need to be determined for a charge to be laid.
