MERRITT – One of the main roads in Lower Nicola, Aberdeen Road, will keep its name sake after residents show overwhelming support.
Last month, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) found previous geographic information issues which led to the temporarily change of the street name to Aberdeen Mine Road.
This led the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) to ask the residents in Lower Nicola for their opinions on what the road should be named.
“The TNRD consulted residents during March 2023, and residents who live on the road overwhelmingly supported maintaining the name as Aberdeen Road,” wrote the TNRD in their press release.
Proper signage, for Aberdeen Road, is being re-established after crews put up the Aberdeen Mine Road visuals.
Residents of Lower Nicola will be receiving official letters of the change shortly, whereas emergency services have already been informed about the new name.
