MERRITT – The section of road under construction on Voght street may be completed sooner rather than later.
According to the City of Merritt, there was a water main break in November causing significant road damage between Blackwell and Grimmett.
“The City recognized that simply repairing the road with new asphalt would not address the underlying issue of the cause: our aging watermain infrastructure,” wrote the City in their statement.
Since it was the winter, crews could not begin repaving the area, which led the City to apply for funding to repair the road properly. Unfortunately, the bid for funding was unsuccessful.
Now, City officials turn their attention to hiring a contractor to complete the job. Asphalt paving is expected mid-April.
