MERRITT – Piece-by-piece, the new building is on its way for the Merritt Youth and Family Resource Society.
“After many challenges that we have encountered, we are moving forward again to having the 6-piece modular building arriving this month,” wrote Lenora Fletcher, Executive Director with the Support of Carefree Homes, in a news release.
According to the release, the six building pieces will be stored at two separate locations as it will take a few days to get the 15 x 76 large units to the City. It will be taking two days, beginning on February 27, to piece the building together using the largest crane available in the region.
“Delays from the Covid shut down, threat of fires, evacuation of the flood, and a jump in costs for materials and labour were not going to stop this much of a needed facility for the Nicola Valley,” wrote Fletcher.
There will be six program rooms which will provide 76 spots for childcare, with a strong emphasize on infant/toddler care, occupying 40 spots.
Even though the piecing together of the building takes place at the end of the month, finishing touches like, a security system, flooring, painting, among others will need to be completed on the new facility.
Baring any other delays, officials said the building is on track to be up and running in June.
The Family Place Early Learning Centre is located at 1914 Quilchena Avenue, right beside the laundry mat, and it will be a 6408 square feet facility with two levels.
