Music in the Park applications open

MERRITT – As summer time approaches, the return of Music in the Park inches closer.

Applications are open for residents to take part in Music in the Park 2023.

“It is open to any types of performances,” said Jenn Dougherty, Recreation Programmer with the City of Merritt. “I know it has been predominantly music in the past, but I know we have had a magician, we had some story telling in the past, so kind of any local performers we definitely encourage any one to apply.”

With the fun outdoor event still five months away, Dougherty said there is already lots of interest.

“We’re looking at the four Thursdays in the summer, so from July and August. We are looking to start it July 6 and run it until August 31, roughly, it kind of just depends on how many applications we can get, if we can fill all nine of those slots or not. We already have about six or seven that I have in my hands, so we are off to a good start.”

Even though the city is asking for applications for the event, Dougherty would also like to remind everyone how fun of a night it is in the summer.

“I think even if you don’t apply, come out and support the event. It’s all a free event so why not come out on a summer evening and enjoy some local performances.”

Local performers who are wanting to apply can do so at the City of Merritt’s website or head to the Civic Centre, visit Dougherty, and get all the information.
