Merritt family recognized as one of the ‘Billet Families of the Month’ in the BCHL

MERRITT – Each month, the BCHL recognizes families throughout the league as the ‘Billet Families of the Month’, and a Merritt family was honoured this time around.

Peter Schmid and Shannon Dunn have been billeting Merritt Centennial players for ten years now, since 2013, and have embraced every second of it.

“It is important to us be a billet family for the Centennials for many reasons,” said Peter and Shannon. “Obviously, Merritt is a small town and, outside of hockey, training and school, there aren’t too many ‘distractions’ for the boys, so having a home to begin and end your day with becomes even more important. We have loved these boys becoming part of our family, the neighborhood and community at large – everyone knows who the Cents are and it is a great feeling being part of the team.”

They are currently the billet home for Centennials assistant captain, Mark Thurston, who has been a member of the team since the 2020-21 pod season.
