NVIT announces new Board Chair

MERRITT – There is a new Board Chair at the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT).
Melissa Louie was declared elected to the position by acclamation, effective November 22, 2022.
Louie was originally appointed to the NVIT Board by the Ministry of Advanced Education in 2018 and since then, she has served as an Executive Member and a member of the Audit and Risk Management Committee at NVIT.
“Over the course of her professional career, Melissa has developed broad and practical experience in providing legal and strategic policy advice, legislative drafting, and development of governance structures,” wrote NVIT in the media release. “In addition, providing advice on a wide range of treaty-related and Aboriginal title and rights issues that benefit her work with NVIT. Melissa also prioritizes a commitment to family and Indigenous communities through various volunteer activities that align closely with her values.”
The new Board Chair is a Coast Salish and Syilx lawyer and a citizen of the Tla’amin nation, located north of Powell River, BC, with family ties to the Penticton Indian Band
