‘Multiple vehicle incidents’ close southbound lanes on Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt

MERRITT — The southbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt are closed.

In a social media post at around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 20), DriveBC says the stretch of Highway 5 is closed southbound at the Othello Road exit due to multiple vehicle incidents.

Crews are en route, but DriveBC tells drivers to expect major delays and avoid non-essential travel.

Environment Canada says 10 to 15 centimetres of snow are expected for Highway 5 between Hope and Merritt Tuesday.

DriveBC also issued a travel advisory due to heavy snowfall and strong winds.
