MERRITT – The Lower Nicola Eco-Depot was the victim of a fire on October 29 and has since been running with modifications, but hopefully for not much longer.
“We are looking for contractors right now,” said Andrew Roebbelen, Waste Management Coordinator with the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) “At this point we have a couple of bids right now on BC Bids to do the work because it is a pretty big job.”
When it comes to how the Eco-Depot is currently running, Roebbelen breaks down the modifications and how they are making it work.
“In the meantime we’ve got a temporary set up that is working quite well and we are back to normal field operations. We have telecommunications, so we got debit and credit back up and running, so the only thing we don’t have is the two scales which makes things a little faster. We are going maybe a little slower than usual but winters tend to be a slower time anyways so its giving us a chance to make the proper repairs to the structure.”
He is confident that they will be back up and running without modifications soon.
“Once those bids close and the successful component gets underway, the work should be done pretty quickly, but we also want to make sure it’s done right so we are taking our time and making sure it’s done properly.”
The Eco-Depot continues to be open regular hours, which is 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. daily.
