Multiple shootings in the Merritt area still under investigation

MERRITT – Merritt Mayor Mike Goetz confirms that around 100 rounds were fired this morning across the community.
He said it was a targeted shooting and that no one was injured during the incident.
According to Goetz there is no threat to the public but the investigation is still ongoing.

MERRITT – Merritt RCMP said there were multiple shootings in the Merritt area early this morning.
According to police, the shootings occurred in the Merritt, Coldwater Indian Band, and the Mamette Lake road areas this morning between 5:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m..
Officers believe the shootings were targeted in nature and there is still a active investigation going on with a police presence in those areas.
The Lower Nicola Indian Band released a statement urging people to stay in their homes and lock the doors while the situation is ongoing.
Another release from the School District 58 said the incident is not connected to the schools and they are remaining opening during this time.
