Municipal election general voting day

MERRITT – It is election day within the City of Merritt.
Residents are encouraged to go cast their vote at the Merritt Civic Centre (1950 Mamette Avenue) between 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m..
There is one Mayor vacancy, six Councilor seats, and three School Board Trustee positions available.

In order to be eligible to vote residents must:
- 18 years or older on October 15
- Canadian Citizen
- Living in BC at least six months
- Resident of Merritt
- Not be disqualified from voting by law
If non-residents wan to be able to vote they must:
- 18 years or older on October 15
- Canadian Citizen
- Living in BC at least six months
- Not be disqualified from voting by law
- Owned property in Merritt for at least 30 days
- May only vote once (those who own two properties don’t get to vote twice)
In order to cast a vote, the required documentation is:
- Two documents that prove your identity
- Signature
- Date of birth
- Social Insurance Number
The documents could be:
- BC Drivers Licence and BC Healthcare card
- If you have a combined licence and healthcare card it only counts as one
- BC ID card and utility bill with your name on it
- Contains signature, name, and address
- Owner’s certificate of vehicle and a property tax notice
- Contains signature, name, and address
- Credit/debit card issued by bank
