MERRITT – Ahead of the upcoming municipal election, current councilor and mayoral candidate Tony Luck has made a decision regarding the race.
“I’d like to make an announcement,” said Tony Luck. “I have decided, with consultation with my wife and everything, that I have two options, one, I get out of the race or two, I hang up my real estate license. I have decided to, while mayor in this community, hang up my real estate license.”
Luck said he made this decision because he was hearing concerns from residents throughout the city about potential conflict of interest but he insists that is not the case at all.
“The community is really concerned that because I am a realtor, that I’m in it for myself and that I’m here to sell all the land in Merritt for myself, but I can already do that if I wanted to, I’m a realtor, I don’t have to be mayor, in fact its actually easier to do that without being mayor. There is certainly a great concern about my perceived conflict of interest as a realtor so that’s why I have decided to hang up my real estate license.”
Joining Luck in the race is current Mayor Linda Brown, Mike Bhangu, and Mike Goetz.
Residents head to the polls on October 15.
