Civic Center to open as temporary cooling centre amid heat warning

MERRITT – The City of Merritt has announced it will open the Civic Center to give residents temporary relief from predicted record-breaking temperatures this week.
“Attendees to the cooling center can expect to find an airconditioned room, seating, cold bottled water, wifi, and reading material,” said the City of Merritt. “There will be power outlets for charging electronic devices.”
According to the City, the Civic Center, at 1950 Mammet Ave, will be available from Tuesday to Friday during the times of 10:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m..
Officials said if there is a need for the Center to stay open on the weekend then a plan will be made.
