Members of ther Merritt detachment of the RCMP will be out in full force this weekend as the holiday weekend commences.
On average, 480 people are injured and three people are killed in 1,800 crashes throughout the province over Victoria Day long weekend.
The statistics also show that speeding remains the leading cause of car crash fatalities in B.C. with eight people, on average, killed in crashes involving speed every month from May through September.
Sgt. Josh Roda of the Merritt RCMP reminded residents that if they choose to celebrate this weekend to find alternate ways to get home such as call-a-cab, use a designated driver or plan to spend the night.
