Merritt City Council has unanimously approved adding community recovery and emergency preparedness to strategic focuses. The move came after the details were debated during a recent committee of the whole meeting.
“Following the November 2021 floods, staff brought proposed updates to the Committee of the Whole meeting on March 15th, 2022. Staff discussed proposed updates with Council, who provided feedback about their views on the items removed, and modifications made,” stated Greg Lowis, Director of Corporate Services.
The focus is split into four subsections including infrastructure, emergency preparedness, legislative updates, and community wellness.
Some of the biggest items on the list are replacement of the Middlesborough Bridge, repair work at the Rapid infiltration basins, and the Coldwater River Floodplain dike design.
Council voted 5-0 in favour of the motion (Coun. Tony Luck was absent).
