Council approves early 2022 capital projects
Merritt City Council is getting a jump on a long list of capital projects for 2022 with early approval for just over $1-million of work.
“The list of capital projects has changed substantially since November 2021. We have reduced the number and value of 2022 projects based on the uncertainty of whether or not the City will receive funding for our 20% portion of DFA capital projects,” said Finance Director Wayne Anderson. “Our hope is that some of the projects pushed off to 2023 could be moved forward to 2022 should the City receive funding from the Province to cover a substantial portion of the unfunded costs for our recovery projects.”
The early approval comes as the full budget document, including tax rates is not expected to be approved by Council until mid-April.
“Some of these projects can be completed more cost effectively during the spring or summer months. Proceeding with other projects will allow us to meet statutory deadlines or provide us with an asset in time to provide protection to City structures or generate revenue,” added Anderson.
The total early approval is $1,127,007. Merritt City Council voted unanimously in favour of approval.
