The City of Merritt is applying for $25,000 in community emergency preparedness funding. The funding if approved by UBCM will be used to better train the staff working on post-flood recovery around the city.
“While we currently face a great deal of financial restrictions post-flood, the EOC & training grant would allow us to invest in the City of Merritt’s EOC team and facilities to ensure that we can meet our mandate of providing emergency management in future disasters,” reads the grant application.
The funding would also be used to invest in new equipment and training exercises for the EOC team.
Merritt has not received funding through this stream over the past four years.
Council voted unanimously this week in favour of the proposal.
