Former Merritt councillor Bhangu to go to trial on threats charge in November

KAMLOOPS — A former Merritt councillor will go to trial in November on a charge of uttering threats.

Mike Bhangu was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm after an incident last August.

In provincial court Thursday (Feb. 17), Bhangu’s trial date was set for November 24, 2022.

Bhangu resigned from his seat on Merritt council in December.

Speaking to Q101 in Merritt shortly after he was initially charged, Bhangu maintained his innocence, saying the allegations were brought forward by someone who had made him feel unsafe in his own home.
