Snowpack above normal in B.C., very high in Chilcotin
Snowfall | CFJC Today
The February snow survey from the B.C. River Forecast Centre (BCRFC) shows above-normal snowpack for much of the province.
In its latest report, the BCRFC notes average snowpack for all of B.C. is 110 per cent of normal for this time of year, with the highest levels being found in the Chilcotin region at 170 per cent.
That extreme reading is out of step with other regions in central and southern B.C. though, with the Middle Fraser at 117 per cent of normal, the North Thompson at 118 per cent and the Lower Thompson at 122 per cent.
The South Thompson basin east of Kamloops is nearly right on normal at 103 per cent.
Spring runoff volumes are predicted to be near normal for the Thompson basin, but the BCRFC notes only about two-thirds of the season’s snow has typically fallen by early February.
