The Conservative Party of Canada is officially looking for a new leader.
During a national caucus meeting this morning (Feb.2), the Conservative’s voted to remove Erin O’Toole as leader of the party in a secret ballot. The move came after a group of 35 MPs signed a letter requesting a leadership review.
“Being the leader of the official opposition is an incredibly difficult job,” began Albas. “I just want to say thank you to the O’Toole family for their service and sacrifice.”
The Tories will be voting for an interim leader later today, with all eyes towards a full leadership race in the near future.
“I get the sense there were more questions about his leadership style and whether or not it was appropriate to moving forward. I think quite honestly people need to see a positive face,” said Albas. “As a democratic, grass-roots driven party, we will have debated and people can decide who’s vision for the Country will work best for them.”
“What we are talking about right now is moving past these questions of leadership and more onto holding the government to account,” added Albas.
