Two former Centennials nominated for Hobey Baker Award
A pair of former Merritt Centennials have been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.
The award is given to college hockey’s top player and is based on strength of character, on-ice performance and academic achievement.
The initial list of nominees was voted on by NCAA Division I head coaches. In total 19 former BCHL players made the list, including two Cents.
Matthew Kopperud has 29 points (13G, 16A) this season with Arizona State University. Over two season with Merritt (2017-2019), ‘The Robo-Kop’ put up 92 points in 89 games.
Zach Metsa has 18 points this year from the blueline in his Senior year with Quinnipiac. During his lone season in Merritt (2016-17), Metsa posted 27 points in 57 games.
Fans have the opportunity to vote for players here.
The first round of voting concludes on Mar. 6, then a list of 10 finalists will be revealed.
