Merritt Rotary Club uses matching donations to crack $200,000 mark
The Merritt Rotary Club has set up a Disaster Relief fund to help families and individuals who have been severely affected by the flooding.
The funds will be based on donations from Individual Rotary members, Rotary Clubs and non-Rotary individuals and organizations. Fund proceeds will be used to provide financial support to individuals in need to help them on their path to recovery.
Rotary Club President Leslee Lucy joined Q101 to update the totals and thank a number of local businesses for stepping up to support the cause.
“We have between 250 and 300 donors to date. We have $200,000 in the bank, with another $200,000 promised. It’s absolutely incredible,” said Lucy.
So far, the club has received 64 applications for the funding, with cheques being written this week.
Those in need of assistance can fill out a form on the clubs website. (https://www.rotarymerritt.com/)
“Pharmasave started the matching donors at $25,000. Then Frank Rizzardo from Emcon came on at $25,000. Our third was Disaster Aid Canada, which is a Rotary group from the Island. A current matching donor is Rockin’ River Music Fest for another $50,000,” said Lucy.
The Rotary Club of Merritt is registered as a charitable organization with the Canada Revenue Agency. This registration designates the Society as a Qualified Donee for organizations that require this designation as a basis for providing donations. It also allows us to provide tax receipts for those donating to the fund.
Donations can be made by cheque to the Merritt Rotary Club Society at PO Box 938 Merritt, BC V1K 1B8 Or by e-transfer to connect@rotarymerritt.com
