The third and final forecasted atmospheric river hit the region on Tuesday night, continuing through Thursday morning, bringing with it heavy precipitation and snow melt from higher temperatures.
The Coldwater River did swell, but City Officials confirmed that no overland flooding occurred.
“Our damming and diking infrastructure and the new defenses held the river back,” said Information Officer Alan Stebbing. “No overland flooding within the City of Merritt.”
The good news also comes with an expansion of day pass hours for those in phase three now allowed home from 7-7 daily.
As for a permanent return home, the City is working to finalize that plan.
“We’re looking to have some more announcements on that later today. We’re just gathering some final pieces of the puzzle to put a plan in place for people,” added Stebbing.
Phase four residents can also now return to their homes between 7-7.
