MERRITT, B.C. — As residents of Merritt and other flood-ravaged areas of the Nicola Valley are trickling back home and beginning the daunting task of cleaning up their properties, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is offering some help.
In a news release, the TNRD says it is partnering with the City of Merritt to offer curbside debris removal.
Residents are asked to take their items to the curb for collection, as TNRD and City of Merritt collectors will not be entering structures or private properties.
If you are planning to move debris to the curb, the TNRD asks you to separate it into the following piles:
- Wood
- Large appliances, mattresses and other bulky items
- Drywall, vinyl flooring and other material that may contain asbestos
- Any bagged material (Double-bag food waste)
Hazardous materials and liquids will not be collected as part of the curbside program.
Within the City of Merritt, material can be placed at the curb at any time and it will be picked up. Outside the City of Merritt, residents should arrange pickup by calling (250) 377-2596.
