“Influenza, cold and flu season is here. And so what happens is the weather gets cooler, people move inside, there’s less humidity in the air, so we’re more likely to get sick with respiratory infections.”
Interior Health notes in a release that hand washing, mask use, and physical distancing all helped reduce the spread of COVID-19 last year, as well as influenza.
Those who face increased risk of severe illness from the flu include children under five years of age, people who are pregnant, Aboriginal, over the age of 65 years and those with underlying chronic health conditions.
