COVID-19 hospitalizations up to 422 in B.C.; 609 new cases reported Wednesday

VICTORIA – The province is reporting 609 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday (Oct. 27), including 92 within Interior Health.

The totals come as part of an update from the province’s health ministry.

It notes hospitalization are up to 422 in the province, though that spike is partly due to a data correction in Interior Health. There are 157 patients in intensive care.

Of the 4,748 active cases in B.C., 642 are in Interior Health.

Six more people have died of COVID-19 Wednesday, raising the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 2,137.

There are five new healthcare outbreaks, raising the B.C. total to 32. The outbreak at Overlander Long Term Care remains active.

The health ministry says 89.7 per cent of eligible British Columbians have received one vaccine dose, while 84.7 per cent have received two doses.

Over the past week, people who are not fully vaccinated account for 64.1 per cent of all new cases. People who are not fully vaccinated made up 74.9 per cent of COVID-19 hospitalizations over the past two weeks.
