With the BCHL’s regular season on the horizon and minor hockey in full swing, Merritt City Council is ensuring the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena will be accessible for all spectators.
“The elevator at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena has been extensively repaired several times over the past decade. These repairs have been extremely costly because of the dated design of the unit itself. Currently, the elevator is not functioning and would need over ten thousand dollars in repairs,” said Recreation and Facilities Director Sky McKeown.
Instead of the patchwork fix, Merritt City Council voted in favour of a retrofit of the aging elevator.
The $42,758 retrofit will be funded through the city’s gas tax reserve.
