Merritt Driver convicted of Impaired Driving
A Merritt driver has been convicted of impaired driving following a collision on highway 8 in April of 2021.
“Despite failing to remain at the scene, our officers quickly identified and located the driver at a local residence. On September 14, Sheila Bodnar was convicted of Operating with over 80milligrams of alcohol and received a $2,000 fine and a 1-year Driving Prohibition,” wrote Staff Sergeant Major Stephan Drouin.
The crash occurred in Lower Nicola when the car hit a telephone pole along the highway.
Prohibited Salmon Arm Driver caught in Merritt
A March police check stop caught a prohibited driver out of Salmon Arm.
“Officers stopped a Salmon Arm motorist who was operating a vehicle contrary to a driving prohibition. On September 14, 2021, Vern Clemah was convicted under the BC Motor Vehicle Act for Driving While Prohibited and received a $500 fine, $75 Victim Surcharge and a 14 days jail sentence,” wrote Staff Sergeant Major Stephan Drouin.
Gun fired at a local resident while operating his excavator
Charges are being recommended to the crown following reports of shot fired.
“On September 17, 2021, The Merritt RCMP responded to a complaint of shots fired at a local resident while operating his excavator on a rural property near Merritt. Officers quickly mobilized in the area and located the male suspect driving away from the scene and still in possession of a rifle. Officers safely arrested the male suspect without incident,” wrote Staff Sergeant Major Stephan Drouin.
Merritt RCMP are recommending various weapon charges against the accused. Names can not be released until charges are approved.
