Merritt to investigate distance between cannabis stores

Merritt City Council has unanimously approved a notice of motion from Mayor Linda Brown to investigate the buffer zone distances between retail cannabis stores in the city.

“That staff review the distance between cannabis stores within the City of Merritt and report back to council on the available options,” said Brown. “This due to things we’ve heard from the public that 150 metres is not far enough.”

Staff will be comparing the current Merritt buffer zones to other like-sized communities and reporting back to Council at a future meeting.

Staff are also be asked to propose any necessary amendments to the zoning bylaw.
