KAMLOOPS — Just a few weeks ago, this would have seemed unthinkable.
A campfire ban in place for the Kamloops Fire Centre will be lifted as of noon Friday (Sept. 10).
In a news release, the B.C. Wildfire Service says cooler temperatures have combined with precipitation to cause fire danger ratings across the region to decline.
While campfires will be allowed as of Friday, Category 2 and Category 3 fires are still prohibited.
This summer was one of the worst fire seasons on record in the Kamloops Fire Centre, with several major fires scorching tens of thousands of hectares and burning through the communities of Lytton and Monte Lake.
