Near the conclusion of the Special Council Meeting on August 31, Mayor Linda Brown moved three notices of motion.
The first notice was regarding the location of cannabis retail locations within the City.
“That staff review the distance between cannabis stores within the City of Merritt and report back to council on the available options,” said Brown. “This due to things we’ve heard from the public that 150 metres is not far enough.”
The second notice spoke to the newly adopted earthworks bylaw.
“I ask that staff consult with local contractors by way of an open meeting. I know we are not obligated to consult with contractors but I’m asking that we do and report back on with recommendations for changes, if any,” said Brown.
The final notice comes as the wildfire season continues across BC.
“I would like to ask for a staff report on fire smarting our community, where are we, where to we need to get to, approximately what would the cost be, how can we fund it,” questioned Brown.
Per procedure, all three motion were not debated and will return to the next regular council meeting for a full discussion and possible vote.
