Merritt man charged with assaulting an officer

The Merritt RCMP have announced a Merritt man has been charged with multiple offences after being spotted chasing a female down Quilchena Avenue.

“On June 29, 2021, police were called to Quilchena Avenue, near Voght Street for a male chasing a female. The male was arrested by police and in the process attempted to assault the police officer,” wrote Sgt. Josh Roda.

Matthew Washington was charged with two counts of uttering threats and one count of assaulting a police officer on August 12.

Washington is scheduled to appear before the Merritt Law Courts on August 31.
