The BC Wildfire Service is reporting growth on the Lytton Creek wildfire. As of Wednesday morning the fire is listed at 84,327 hectares, a large jump from the just over 71,000 hectares on Tuesday.
“Rain and cooler temperatures continued through Tuesday. Rain varied across the Lytton Creek wildfire, ranging from 18mm to 38mm. Warm and dry temperatures are expected to return for the next few days but with light winds. Overnight cooler temperatures and higher humidity will help reduce fire behaviour. The cool, wet weather limited fire activity in the fine fuels but these are expected to dry out again and become more active by Wednesday or Thursday afternoon,” reads the file.
“The fire spread to the east from August 15 remained about 3km west of highway 97C. Crews were working to establish a fire guard along the southeast edge. This work will continue for several days to protect the highway and communities to the southeast,” continues the file.
To ensure fire crews and other emergency responders can safely access Highway 8, danger tree assessment and tree falling work will take place between Shackan and Canford.
