KAMLOOPS — It didn’t look promising a couple weeks ago, but Roger Sloan stepped up his game and worked his way into the Top 125, earning him a spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs that start this week.
The Merritt native was in 154th position on Canada Day, but he worked his way back into contention over the last six weeks. He was 12 spots behind two weeks ago, but had back-to-back great weeks, and nearly won his first PGA Tour event on Sunday.
Sloan birdied the 18th hole at the Wyndham Championships to get into a six-way playoff. He missed his birdie on the first playoff hole, made par on the second hole, and eventually Kevin Kisner won with his birdie.
The second-place finish launched Sloan to 92nd position. He is one of four Canadians to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs and earn their PGA Tour card for next season.
The first tournament for the FedEx Cup Playoffs is the Northern Trust Open in Jersey City, New Jersey. The top 70 advance to the BMW Championship.
