COSN Liberal candidate not looking for early election call

It’s widely speculated that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is considering dropping the writ and sending Canadians to the polls this Fall.
In Central Okanagan Similkameen Nicola (COSN) the parties have been busy getting ready for a potential campaign, but the local Liberal candidate hopes no election is called by her boss, at least not yet.
“I actually am not in favour of an election right away because our riding is so large geographically its a lot of work to go across the whole riding and do that outreach,” said Sarah Eves.
Despite not wanting to go to the polls right now, Eves has been closing ground on Incumbent MP Dan Albas, according to one poll at least.
“It’s incredibly close, and we’ve been watching the polls shift over the past month. About a month ago it was 37% for the Conservatives and 30% for myself. (The poll now has the gap at less than 1%),” said Eves. “We’ve started doing outreach across the riding and we’re starting to see those numbers reflected in the polls.”
While door knocking across the riding, Eves mentioned climate change has been a key topic for the voters.
“The issues around wildfires and climate change have been coming up a lot in recent weeks. Just that real concern is what is the Federal Government specifically going to be doing to address climate change,” said Eves. “The second biggest issue is around COVID-19 supports.”
Confirmed COSN Candidates (as of August 12, 2021)
