Every weekend Q101 publishes the ‘Week That Was’ highlighting some of the most interesting news stories of the week.
This week Merritt was talking about the Murray Church arsonist, a new development along Voght Street, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s visit, and the ongoing wildfire situation in BC.
Nicola Valley church arsonist pleads guilty
On July 23, August Caprian pleaded guilty to three counts of arson and one count of break and enter with intent.
“(The incidents) stem from a series of church arsons that occurred in the Nicola Valley in January 2019,” said Sgt. Josh Roda.
Zoning amendment for 3350 Voght approved
Less than a year after a similar amendment was defeated by City Council, 3350 Voght street is set to become a full modular home park.
Singh ready for federal election call
“We’re absolutely ready, we knew that the Liberals were going in this direction so we prepared,” said NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.
July Mountain wildfire grows
The BC Wildfire Service is reporting that the July Mountain blaze has grown from 1,267 hectares earlier this week to 1,870. The fire remains classified as out of control, and due to heavy smoke in the area, better mapping may reveal yet another increase.
