Less than a year after a similar amendment was defeated by City Council, 3350 Voght street is set to become a full modular home park.
The parcel was rezoned to R7-medium density and R4-residential modular home in October of 2020. The R7 zone along Voght was to allow for townhomes to be built. At that time Council also approved an Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment for the property.
“At Third Reading, an amendment was proposed by a member of Council to remove the R7 zone from the proposed Amendment Bylaw, similar to what is being proposed with the current application. Council voted 5-2 against the proposed amendment,” said Planning Manager Don McArthur.
Nine months later, Council has voted 6-1 to approve the removal of the townhomes.
“As part of the public hearing process, some members of the public stated that they would support the development if it didn’t have the townhomes and if the entirety of the parcel were developed as R4 zoning, primarily citing height concerns with the R7 zoning,” said McArthur.
It was that willingness to appease the public that was applauded by Council.
The lone vote against the application came from Councilor Mike Bhangu who wasn’t opposed to the development but to the business model of leasing the land.
