While the province of BC is tackling 212 active wildfires, the Nicola Valley has been able to remain fairly safe.
Other than a blaze near Quilchena on Thursday (July 1) night, the area hasn’t seen the same fire activity as those to the North near Kamloops, Logan Lake, and further towards the Cariboo.
As of Tuesday (July 6) morning, the BC Wildfire Service is reporting that 68 fires are burning within the Kamloops Fire Centre, with the closet to Merritt being North of Logan Lake, where evacuation orders have been issued.
There is currently four active wildfires of note in the region; Durand Lake, Lytton, McKay Creek and Sparks Lake.
