VIDEO – Merritt Fire respond to another dumpster fire

The Merritt Fire department responded to yet another dumpster fire in the City on Monday (May 31) afternoon. The fire was behind Railyard Mall.

Chief Dave Tomkinson was first on the scene and was able to shut the dumpster’s lids to contain the blaze. Shortly thereafter the crews arrived on scene and quickly doused the flames.

“We’ve had about seven or eight dumpster fires in the past two months now,” recounted Chief Tomkinson. “It’s a bit of an oddity that this one occurred during the day.”

Q101 has reached out to the Merritt RCMP who confirm there is an open file on the case. Anybody with information into the recent string of fires is asked to contact the detachment or crimestoppers.
