Alleged footwear thief nabbed by eagle-eyed Merritt Mountie

MERRITT, B.C. — RCMP in Merritt say an alleged porch pirate was caught stepping all over the evidence.In a release, B.C. RCMP spokesperson Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says Cst. Carly Gerein was browsing social media Tuesday (May 11) when she saw a post made by a local resident, showing surveillance video of a man stealing a pair of shoes off her porch.

Cst. Gerein recognized the man from previous dealings with him.

The next day, Gerein found and arrested the man for theft under $5,000. At the time, the suspect was still wearing the shoes in question.
